Anton Mueller, Executive Editor of Bloomsbury USA, has acquired world rights to Geoff Dembicki’s first book. Are We Screwed? A Millennial’s Guide to Climate Change keys off 28-year-old Dembicki’s dispatches for Vice, Salon, the Tyee, and others to explain the massive societal shifts Millennials are creating in their response to global warming.
We’re honoured and thrilled to announce that Page Two principals Jesse Finkelstein and Trena White have been made adjunct professors of Publishing at Simon Fraser University. We look forward to providing continued expertise and support to the school and its excellent Master of Publishing Program of which both Jesse and Trena are proud alumni.
Page Two is pleased to announce a groundbreaking new publishing deal. In an unprecedented agreement, Kobo will partner with ECW Press to publish Jian Ghomeshi: Secret Life, a detailed exploration of the rise and downfall of the superstar radio personality by our agency client Kevin Donovan, the award-winning Toronto Star investigative journalist who has covered the story.
Congratulations to Peter Cocking, Page Two’s design associate, who has won two 2014 Alcuin Awards for book design. He took first prize in the Reference category for The Dirty Apron Cookbook, and honourable mention in Pictorial for the art book Susan Point.
We’re delighted to report a new book deal we made through our association with Transatlantic Agency: Dr. Karen Lee’s FIT CITIES: HOW URBAN DESIGN CAN CONQUER THE OBESITY EPIDEMIC, a brilliant, eye-opening look at how we can act now to stop one of the world’s biggest health issues, based on the latest research and interviews with designers and health practitioners, as well as Lee’s own personal experiences in the field.
We had the opportunity to look back on Page Two’s first year in an editorial for Publishing Perspectives. Upon reflection, we realized that the work we’ve done on even our most non-traditional projects has deep roots in industry traditions, and our most digitally-minded clients appreciate the benefits of time-tested publishing practices.
Arno Kopecky’s The Oil Man and the Sea: Navigating the Northern Gateway (Douglas & McIntyre) has been shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award 2014.
