We are honored to announce that Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, OBC, OC, Hereditary Chief of the Gwawaenuk People, and Page Two author of Namwayut: We Are All One: A Pathway to Reconciliation has won the 2023 Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award! This literary prize is awarded annually, recognizing the best book in terms of public appeal, design, and content—among other considerations—as selected by BC and Yukon booksellers. Chief Joseph’s book was also selected as a Whistler Independent Book Awards finalist* earlier this summer, and this marks the second Bill Duthie award win for his family. His son, Bob Joseph, won the same award in 2019 for the #1 national bestseller 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act: Helping Canadians Make Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples A Reality.
Page Two co-founders, Jesse Finkelstein & Trena White, were honored to celebrate with Chief Dr. Robert Joseph at the 39th Annual BC and Yukon Book Prizes Gala on the evening of September 24th in Vancouver. From all of us at Page Two, our sincerest congratulations to Chief Dr. Robert Joseph and his family. We are so proud to recognize this remarkable achievement and to bring wider attention to Chief Joseph’s vitally important work of nonfiction.
*Update: Since this post was published, Namwayut: We Are All One: A Pathway to Reconciliation was declared the winner of the 2023 Whistler Independent Book Awards in the Non-Fiction Category as announced at the Whistler Writers’ Festival during the week of October 12, 2023.
