Welcoming Melissa Kawaguchi

Oct 25, 2021

We’re pleased to welcome the talented Melissa Kawaguchi to the Page Two team!

Melissa is our new production editor. In this role, she will lend her sharp editorial eye to proofreading and copyediting manuscripts, marketing collateral, and more. She will also oversee the editorial side of our audiobook program and work closely with our production team, printers, and authors to ensure that our books are released into the world on time and free of errors.

Read on to learn more about Melissa, from her editorial background to her passion for running and books!

Could you tell us a bit about your background?

I have a BA in history and international relations from McGill University and a publishing certificate from Ryerson University. Before coming to Page Two, I was the editorial assistant at Dundurn Press. I learned so much about the editorial and publishing processes at Dundurn and had the chance to work on a variety of books—fiction, non-fiction, YA, and middle grade—which was a great introduction to the publishing industry.

What aspects of the production editor role are you most excited about?

I’m excited about learning more about the production process since this is an area that I’m not very familiar with. I’m also really looking forward to copyediting and proofreading some of Page Two’s titles and working with such a great team!

This is a hard one: Who is your favorite author, and why?

I don’t think I have a favorite author, but one who I love is Kazuo Ishiguro. He has such a beautiful, precise writing style that always makes me feel very connected to and invested in his characters and stories, and I love that his work is so varied. Every one of his books is fantastic.

If you could wake up tomorrow with one new talent or ability, what would it be?

I would love to be fluent in every language!

How do you like to unwind after a hard day’s work?

Running has always been a good way for me to decompress after a long day at work. I can just focus on the road ahead and not think about all the stressful things in life. Curling up on the couch to watch Netflix while working on a knitting project and having a glass of wine with friends are also very high up on my list!
